We will be visiting the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco from 5 to 9 March. It was a last minute decision. The Benelux Game Initative is offering us some space in their booth (5310 NH) where we’ll be showing The Endless Forest and the first teaser for our new project, The Path (formerly 144). It’s likely that we will mostly be roaming around, attending lectures and hanging out. So if you want to meet us, please email us, preferably in advance.
On March 8, Patrick Dugan will be presenting a poster session entitled “First-Generation Drama Engines”, featuring, amongst others, Drama Princess.
Tale of Tales talks about 144 on 13 Feb 2007, at 8 PM, at The Game Is Up! in Vooruit in Gent. More information here.
Deer Endless Forest players,
It’s dark in the woods at the moment. And cold. These are the shortest days of the year.
But soon the light will come back!
Join us in our New Year’s Abiogenesis spectacle on the first of January at 6 PM (Belgian time). A good way to start a great year (or wash away the hangovers and cobwebs of the old).
See you on Twin Gods Hill!
Michael & Auriea.
We are presenting a special hour long ABIOGENESIS performance on Thursday July 27th 7.00pm ñ 8.00 pm (UK time, click here for the time in your area) for the exhibition Game/Play presented online, at the HTTP Gallery in London, and Q-Arts in Derby.
more information: http://www.game-play.org.uk
Playful interaction and goal-oriented gaming explored through media arts practice.
The exhibition opens at two different venues, in the UK and then joins, to tour as a single touring show. Game/Play is a networked national touring exhibition in the UK, focusing on the rhetorical constructs game and play.
Michael Mateas and Andrew Stern, Jetro Lauha, Julian Oliver, Kenta Cho, Mary Flanagan, Low Brow Trash, Paul Granjon, Simon Poulter, Giles Askham, Jakub Dvorsky, Long Journey Home, PRU, Q Club, Furtherfield, Tale of Tales.
24 May 2006: Michael and Auriea participate in Beauty in the age of digital art panel discussion at Okno Public01, Brussels.
On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May, we will give ABIOGENESIS performances that will be projected in the Lumiere cinema in Maastricht at the occasion of the KunstTour. So take your deer to Twin Gods Hill at around 3 PM (GMT+2) for a spectacular little show. Or see it on the big screen if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
ABIOGENESIS is the name of our performance system currently under development. This will allow for spectacular, spontaneous, natural and magical events in the Forest.
For your information ‘Abiogenesis’ is a scientific term which means spontaneous generation, the generation of life from non-living matter.
The ABIOGENESIS system will be used in February for the premiere of our live performance series “The Twin Gods Festival” at the STUK arts center in Leuven, Belgium. This performance can be attended both at the venue as well as from your comfortable personal computer.
We’ve made a page with a few screenshots to give you an idea of what’s in store.
More discussion about this in the Forum.
We staged a party in the Forest last night to celebrate our last beta and the end of the Tardis exhibition. We needed many deer to come into the forest at once to check the integrity of the server and find any last bugs which could occur when many deer play at one time.
It was a great success, we didn’t crash, and everyone had a good time.
For those of you who weren’t there we made video! party1.avi (DivX, 15MB) and party2.avi (DivX, 12MB).
And screenshots, of course:
