Here are the results of the little photoshoot I mentioned last week. Our model did a fabulous job, never fearful of spiders, willing to lay down in the mud and hold giant posters in the blowing wind like a pro. ๐
Several of these are used as product shots in the store but since I didn’t have room there for them all, thought I’d post ’em here too.
and lets face it, me and Michael are totally jet-lagged and excited… can’t sleep, might as well upload images to flickr, right. ๐
So, this is photo of our own in-house cosplayer taken yesterday just before we went out for a photoshoot among the trees. (You will see the results of that soon, yesyes.) She holds her latest creation… A ‘Ruby’ outfit made for her doll. She would like you all to know that Rose is her favorite Red Girl because they are the same age. We tried to tell her that she is too young to play The Path… this seems to not matter to her… she just wants a poster of Rose. Done deal!
Here is an idea we got from the creative folks in the forums. Basically it is a way that YOU can help us spread the word about The Path in the offline world! Except for the occasional magazine mention we have absolutely no offline advertising ๐ SO why not download one of these tear-off posters! ๐ Print it out… add your own touches: draw wolves all over it, make a portrait of your favorite Red Girl… write a mini-review, or a poem… whatever. make it colorful… or invert the image to black and hang it in a night club/grocery store/library/bus stop etc. And please send us a photo when you’re done! Post it in the forums… we’d love to see what you come up with!
Last but absolutely not least, we have uploaded a Fan Kit for you. It contains forest backgrounds, silhouetted images of the girls, screenshots, logos and other things which you may use to make graphics for your website or blog. Maybe you’ve been dying to make a Path fansite?… hey, now you have what you need to get that project going ๐ It’s all on the downloads page. Make sure you link back to us is all we ask.
Okay… this will likely be the last blog post before the game is out… we are quite excited and quite proud to be releasing the game after such a long production. While the game may or may not be everything you ever dreamed of, we hope you will give it a chance, let it set your imagination on fire, and that you will ponder and enjoy. Your enjoyment will motivate us to make more games like this in the future!
Next post will be from another continent! Thank you all for your encouragement and support! :-*
AND we’ll throw in a couple stickers with every poster order… okay? XD
(I’d like to see these in person myself actually… for various reasons, mostly having to do with me being impatient with the local yellow pages, I had to order these suckers in the states. the cameraphone pictures were sent to me from our friend in SF who currently is holding onto them for us. Can’t wait to go to the GDC! Many adventures await!)
Tale of Tales publishes launch trailer of soon-to-be-released indie
horror game
Gent, Belgium, 11 March 2009
One more week and then The Path will be released. To ease the pain
and whet the appetite, Tale of Tales has released a video trailer
that clearly sets the tone for an unusual experience.
“At first we were going to make a traditional launch trailer.”
explain creators Auriea Harvey & Michael Samyn, “You know, a little
movie that explains the narrative premise of the game, shows some
gameplay and then serves some kind of challenge. And our first
sketches were just fine. But then we started cutting things up and
working with the recordings of [composer] Jarboe reading the
original fairy tale. The end result much more clearly reflects the
experience of the game: strange, disjointed and completely open for
interpretation while simultaneously feeling very comfortable and
intimate.”
we plan on making them part of the “Deluxe Edition” and these USB sticks will come loaded with a copy of the game, videos (official trailers and behind the scenes work in progress clips), exclusive wallpapers, images and screenshots and whatever else we can think of to put on there that you might like to see/hear/interact with. AND when you’ve enjoyed it all there may still be space for you to put your own files on there… maybe.
We’ve been to the printer this morning. I was anxious to see how the girls would print… and I wanted to document the work being made.
Edition of 200 posters. 1 meter tall. All 6 girls. I checked the color, signed off on the proof prints.
It was fun to see the girls printed so BIG! ๐ (If this goes well we may print the wolves too.) click to see them bigger.
This is the first peek at what we will be selling through the Tale of Tales online store starting March 18th!
We received today the “polaroid” prints of all the girls and could not be more pleased! These are offset print on thick paper stock with a special gloss layer on the image area which gives them a rich color and the feel and appearance of a real polaroid photo. ๐
My images here (taken in the excitement of opening the boxes!!) are running a bit dark actually but I promise to make better photos of everything at a later date. click the images to see them bigger
We are working with one of the best printers here in Belgium to make all of our printed materials the highest quality possible. We don’t make physical objects often but when we do we definitely want to make them as beautiful as we can… no killing trees without a good reason ๐ we want you to keep these items and treasure them. More soon!
This journal chronicles the making of The Path, a single player horror game developed by Tale of Tales, the game was released in March 2009 and can be downloaded via this website! Contributors to this journal are the gameโs main creators Auriea Harvey and Michaรซl Samyn.
We hope you will enjoy our candid revelations about the work process. But we do want to warn you that if you truly want to experience The Path fresh, you might want to avoid reading these pages. We cannot garantee spoiler-free content!
