The Endless Forest / Re: Are there still events in TEF?
« on: June 16, 2015, 10:48:19 pm »
It's been a long time since there was an upgrade.

Interestingly, even though I have a high end video card it seems to barely run TEF.  Newer games, even though they have more detail and action, go three, four times faster easily.

Sadly, it appears the game is beginning to age - not that it's difficult at the usual rates of obsolescence these days.

A server upgrade would be nice.  A game upgrade would be great.  Even just having the existent code recompiled with some tweaks for modern systems would probably be very helpful.

Don't know much about it myself, but would be interested in some details...

What OS are you using?  What kind of machine?  (Intel, AMD...)  How much RAM, what kind of video card, what kind of internet connection, etc etc.   :)

not bad, very interesting hhaha. yeah there definitely needs to be something else to do here to attract more players. more things to customize on your deer, more options at least, more places to go. maybe a music place where when you step on something it plays a musical note. idk...

I don't know about attracting more players.   I mean, it would be great to have more players and more support, but frankly one of the things I love about it is it is so beautiful and peaceful!  I have it set as my screensaver now and often just let it run, it's such a beautiful window into a mythical magical place.  I rarely have time to actually play these days, and look forward to when I can.  Perhaps if people did start inundating the place expansions could be added so the forest wouldn't lose it's private and serene aspect.  All these years it's kind of like my favorite open secret.   I tell people about it, but they just look at me funny.   :-\

I love the musical idea - perhaps stones in a little shallow pond, or ferns that when you rub against them make the note, so when you run through a group of them it plays a little song.  Great idea.   :D

The Endless Forest / Re: Screensaver not working
« on: November 26, 2014, 12:29:05 am »
It works!  Sort of...

I moved the whole folder, which still generated errors.  I then edited the registry for everything that came up on a search for 'Tale of Tales' to reflect the new location.  Still got the errors.  I then COPIED the folder from the Program Files folder back to the old location.  Then everything began working.

This presents obvious loose ends for uninstalling, but I don't plan in uninstalling unless an update comes out, so I'll just deal with it then.   Thanks so much!!!  :)

The Endless Forest / Screensaver not working
« on: November 09, 2014, 04:39:57 pm »
Hello,

The TEF readme file says that for the screensaver to work it must be installed in  "C:\Program Files\Tale of Tales\The Endless Forest 3".

I recently got a new computer with 64 bit Windows 7, and it installs TEF in "C:\Program Files(x86)\Tale of Tales\The Endless Forest 3".   Because of this the there is a 'can not find' error when you try to select TEF as the screensaver.

Does anybody know a workaround, either how to get Windows 7 64 bit to install TEF to the 'Program Files' directory (no option for where to install comes up during installation) or get the screensaver program to recognize it's actual location?  Thanks!

The gender idea is interesting, but I have to agree that leaving aside the whole gender politic thing is one of the reasons I play.  I mean, if you want 'realism' in that aspect, might as well play Second Life.   I like the dandelion idea, and the tree to climb and jump from, they are kinda fun play ideas - but for really special magic I really like the Pegasus idea.    It would be really cool to retain the deer form and be able to fly wherever for a minute or two - you know, on VERY special occasions, sort of like a dream or something.    Or, maybe when your deer falls asleep perhaps there could be a slim random chance that you would kind of float out of your body, and the player might notice a 'ghost' deer floating over his sleeping deer, and be able to go for a flight for a little while, until just like a real OBE it just kinda ends and he finds himself back at his sleeping form.   Perhaps there could be something also in play so the other players could 'sorta' sense the presence of the visiting deer, but it would still be ethereal...

So many possibilities.

The Endless Forest / Re: Pictogram issues....?
« on: January 03, 2014, 01:19:43 am »
Ah.

I have played very quietly for many years.  I am a monthly contributor.   Never have I had an issue - until today, when I saw my own pictogram above another player.

This explains it.

While I am here, I would like to convey my thanks for providing for all these many years a truly peaceful and playful oasis on the net, and something very different.  It is truly appreciated.  :)
