Ok, what follows is one of my crazy fantasies about this game. Feel free to discount any or all of it as ravings of madness. Smile

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my idea, when wondering around the forest away from any of the special places (The gods, the lake, and the ruins), every once in a while (this would be random) the sounds would begin to fade, the trees and ground would change, and slowly, the forest would become a fall forest. This change would only happen while moving, and if at any point you stop and turn around, the change would reverse. To other stags, you would seem to gradually become transparent, finally disappearing altogether. Once the change was complete, you would be locked into this fall forest. The way out is the same as the way in.

Now, the fall forest has no animals, two "special places", and has a few statues, headstones, and broken pillars strewn about it. (Or whatever, I'm not in charge of designing this game. Wink )

Place one: The Black Rocks.

The Black Rocks are just that, big black rocks. In the biggest, there is a dark cave. If you go in, you cannot see your avatar, but when you come out, you have the form of a wolf.

Wolves have three special abilities; sit down, howl, and call mist. You can guess what the first do, I'm sure. The "Call Mist" ability creates a large cloud of mist that will slowly move through the forest before finally disappearing. This can be quite handy when It come to catching deer.

Wolves are immune to the change back to the normal forest; they are not allowed there. If a wolf touches a stag, instead of that magical yellow glow, the stag is killed. If a wolf touches another wolf, nothing happens. If a wolf goes back into the cave, it will emerge as a stag again.

When a deer is killed, it colapses onto the forest floor and quickly degenerates into a skeleton. The avatar then takes the form of a white ball of light, leaving the skeleton on the forest floor. Balls of light have no special abilities and cannot go back the the normal forest.
Skeletons disappear when a player is reborn. (See next section)

Place two: The Graveyard.

The graveyard is surrounded by a tall iron fence. There are two gates through which players may pass. Throughout the graveyard are many gravestones. In the center of the graveyard is a tall statue and a big old haunted-looking tree. If you stay in the graveyard a long time, you will be able to see faint deer shapes, the spirits of the dead. (Not players, simply aesthetics.) Perhaps there should be faint music in the graveyard?

If a dead player comes into the graveyard and goes to the statue, they will become faint deer shapes much like the aesthec ones. Slowly they will gain more form and color, until finally they are normal. When a player comes back from the dead a gravestone will appear in the graveyard. (These player-made stones disappear after a while)

And that's about it. Wink

Shocked Impressive! Very Happy

So, when can you get all this done? We'd like to implement it asap! Cool Wink

It's a great idea. I wish making these sorts of things was a little easier. But as it is now, it will take years before we get around to even seriously considering implementing some of your ideas. But who knows. Maybe we will still be working on this then (touch wood).

I understand. Thanks for considering my ideas though! Smile

Oh, also, the reason I had the players taking the form of wolves instead of having the wolves be computer controlled is that I think that there should be no "NPCs" in this game other than the little creatures like squirrels, etc. I think that part of the beauty and life of this game come from the fact that all of the deer, the frogs, and even the gods have real, thinking people inside of them.

Also, I realize you are not into violence or competition for your game, but I had the wolves killing the deer not for violence or conflict, but as a way for the deer to die and become beautiful Dead Spirits.

So much time and so little to do!

Wait. Cross that out. Reverse it. Thank you.

I think those are some wonderful ideas.
The structure of the forest in our minds is that we keep adding land to the world with each expansion we create a different type of forest. Each of these forests will be around the same size as the whole world is now... maybe bigger. So a Fall forest might accomplish what you are dreaming of. As you travel to the fall forest your deer can tell something is going on, various screen effects herald your entry into this strange new place.
The Black Rocks and transforming cave could be a destination in that forest. Its a lovely idea to enter a cave and come out the other side transformed. I think there are ways we can make at least some of what you speak of happen in a future expansion because some of these things (Including the wolf) are compatible with things we have already set in motion.
The only issues for me are: Death... not sure I want the deer to be killed by a wolf... death might be interesting but not sure about the tension created here. The other thing is that I hope you will learn to appreciate the beauty of autonomous characters Very Happy We have plans for both NPCs that are completely computer controlled "AI" and NPCs which are just part of decorative "scenes." So far these are just ideas and sketches for us as well, and we've no idea if any of it is going to work, or be beautiful, etc. BUT our hope is that these types of characters will add a lot to the world a life, a history. We shall all have to wait and see. Thanks for the suggestions!
