People think of competitive or co-op action when they think of online but loads of things can be pulled off by connecting consoles together. Imagine playing The Last Guardian for the second time and finding the bridge you used in your first playthrough already in shambles. You'd have to find a new way to advance to the next level, perhaps using a barrel some player left earlier to goad Trico into jumping the chasm ahead.
I just found this interesting bit of news on the TeamIcoGamers blog. Apparently a new patent application by Ueda has just been aproved. I don't understand much about gaming systems but it's still an interesting read. Plus it might be of some use to game developers out there.
