How do you get these things? They're, like, tiny pictograms that people post around. Like the things in "The Tales of IT". How d'ya get 'em?

I think people are just making them themselves.

I thought about making one myself. But I didn't want to look like I was copying someone else's idea. Which I would've been doing.

*runs off to make one for the novelty of it*

Here's my picto-stamp.

I think it's just them taking the picto from the pictogram viewer and shrinking it down and turning it into a mini .gif, then when they want to post it they put it into say a photobucket account and then use the image code to post it as a mini-stamp.

Razz All right. *stretches her fingers* Pop. Snap. o_o

I used my standard pictogram (with a black background). Make sure not to use a Background layer, but you can have it hidden. Select the black with the Magic Wand, then Cut. Next, I reselected my pictogram, using Shift to add more to my selection (needed for my "stickman's" head). From here, I used my Gradient tool and picked two colors I liked. After that, deselect everything. You can add the Outer Glow here, which I did, but had to change its properties later. Resize the image. I went with 25 pixels (height). Adjusted my Outer Glow. Then Save for Web. Choose GIF with Transparency. I used No Transparency Dither on mine.

And there is it!

I tried it:

I'm not liking it though, it's all jagged and such. :/ It looked better in photoshop. I'll try again later.

The transparency may be doing that. You could save it as a regular GIF (with the background on). Or as a JPEG.

For the Outer Glow, I think my stats were:
(For a 25 pixel tall image.)

Blend Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100
Noise: 0
Technique: Softer
Spread: 0
Size: 1
Anti-aliased: Off
Range: 25
Jitter: 0

Ooh I want to make one of these, but how do you save the image of your large pictogram? When I use the link to the pictogram viewer, I can't right-click and save the image. Embarassed

Use the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard. Then paste into your art program. That's what I did.
