It would be very different. One thing I noticed, which happened yesturday, was three times this loud thundering crash ripped though the forest. Within 30 minutes it rained twice and snowed. Three different types of giant flowers bloomed along with giant shrooms.
The point of this recount is the idea of the thunder shaking the forest. The deer all reacted to it on their own, looking around all nervous. I bet if the forst was made spooky they would be acting like that a lot. |

| I like the idea of a spooky forest, even for three whole weeks. Just as a change, y'know? |

| I think it would be a lot of fun, at least for a while. If the whole forest was constantly in Halloween mode, it would get in the way of the usual socializing. But having the forest be scary, and having the scariness be optional, would be novel and interesting. |

I don't mind it being spooky, as long as it's not spooky to the point of being distressing. (I'm pretty prone to anxiety, so it really depends on what elements you include I guess. lol Helps if you don't have creepy music playing or any "boo" surprises.) But if by "creepy" you just mean "dark" (in the metaphorical sense), that I can deal with.
However if it's too far toward the creepy-spooky-horror-ish end, I'd say maybe have a way to turn it off for the weak of "hart". (you may all groan now...) |

i vote in favor. it's not like it'll last forever and it'll be kinda like the seasons. everyone anticipates summer and then they enjoy when fall starts. while it's different, we can enjoy that and when it reverts to ... normal ... then we can enjoy that change. |

| I wouldn't mind if it was fun scary. If it got too creepy, I don't think I'd go in the forest too often during that time! I get so nervous about stuff like that, loud noises, things trying to eat me! Ahhh! -hides deer- |

I'm all for it! I think it would be a neat idea for the fall months. Snow for winter, spooky for the tail-end of fall, then new things budding for spring, and our normal forest for summer.
Also, will I be able to experience the Halloween forest? I'm just on the normal server, the one without the fawns. What do I need to do? |

That's like what I was about to post. Random predators (such as wolves) lurking at the edges of your view and such.
Also, candles are always cool. Don't know where we'd put em aside from the ruins, but they'd be kinda neat.
Hmm, randomly floating candles!
Oh Deer, I just realised this, it's like Hary Potter. >_<;;;
Still, it would be neat.
Also, fog. Lots of fog. (Death to the Videocard maybe? )
And a shadow of a human inside the cage, a dark back soul trapped there by the monks who used to call the ruins home. It you go near it you hear wailing.
Shadows of things in the pond, the pond would turn a reddish/green color of stagnant water. The idol would ofcourse drip blood instead of gush 'tears'.
A new pelt with wounds, a skull (or headless) mask and bone or rotten & covered with slime antlers.
Chimes hanging in a few of the trees, sound spooky when you walk near. A large bonfire somewhere. (on top of one of the new big stones in the V3 area?) And green slime dripping off the bridge.!
Gosh, sorry. I get lost in the macabre stuff easily.
(I was about to mention road kill but then realized that would be much more sad than scary.) |

The only thing in movies these days that I find really creepy are the Daleks from the new Dr Who. The forest needs Daleks for a halloween theme!
On the serious side. If you want to people to keep playing this game you will probably keep introducing new pelt/antler/mask options continuously.
Changing the theme now and then would keep the game intersting.
Here's an idea. Get some money to develop an easy to use Pelt editor. Basically just a drawing program where you colour within the lines and convert it directly into a functioning pelt skin when done. You could either let people use homemade custom skins at a whim or let people submit their pelts for you developers to pick and choose what you think fits the game.
I guess an editor for antlers and masks would be a bit more difficult as they in most cases require you to make a 3d model. But just a pelt editor would go a long way I think.
Hmm. The following might be an idea that would be real easy to implement and cost nothing! Maybe you wouldn't need an editor? Just give the community a PNG image, or other lossless format, with the outlines of a pelt as it looks when the textures are spread out on a flat surface, a template. Basically a texture file in an editable format. Make some markings on each part to show where the skin seams will go together when on the 3d model. That way we can import the image into our favourite paint application, draw a pelt, and send it in to you for easy conversion into a pelt texture!
Edit: Oh, and the pelt template would need some outlines for where you should place things like Eyes, hooves and shadows. In fact, if you could have the template in a file format that supports layers with shadows and stuff on a second transparent layer you wouldn't have to deal with the quite tricky busyness of adding shadows in the right places yourself, unless you really want to. |

I think it'd be *really* cool to have a giant, bubbling green cauldron under the big hollow tree, or in front of the gods |

Not very Halloween-ish, but random gunshot sounds. Sudden and loud. We're deer right?
But seriously; a sudden bam like that would pobably make me jump 3 feet in the air while playing something like TEF. ESPECIALLY with all this other creepy stuff o.O
Speaking of the "pelt editor" suggestion; Black & White 2(and I think 1 as well) allows you to do the same. If you have the program to convert the skin texture to PNG you can modify it in photoshop(or whatever you want to use) The BW2 community has produced many 3rd party creature skins in this way(as well as skins for buildings and such- almost anything can be altered like this) |

| Well, it's not a proper template, but I DO have a deer outline PNG people are welcome to use, and I figure if one of the admins likes a design, maybe they can make it into a pelt at some point. ^^; |

I'm seconding (or thirding or sixthing or whatever) the idea of candle antlers. I don't know if it's feasible but it would be wicked cool.
...I was thinking of rust on the face but you can interpret it how you want.
Re:Kanter - A pelt editor would be AWESOME. I would have all sorts of fun with something like that. I don't know how well it would work if everyone could upload their work right away, especially because half the fun of the game is the challenge of getting someone to cast spells on YOU and being able to make your pelt whatever you want would pretty much defeat the purpose. It's a pretty interesting thought, though, perhaps deserving of its own tread, as I feel I'm getting a bit off-topic here.
That said...
Lyrak: You have a deer outline PNG? That would work for making deer skins? I am interested!
In closing, I enjoy Malachistos' headless deer. How difficult would it be to make body parts transparent? A headless option would effect pelt, mask, AND antlers - I figure mask and antlers are pretty easy to make disappear, because they're sort of optional anyway, but the body would require reworking the shape of the deer, wouldn't it? Instead of just a skin change? ....but if making them strategically see-through was possible, it opens up a whole realm of possibilities. |
