We're working very hard on Phase One of The Endless Forest now. We will probably have a first beta ready in the week of the 22nd of August. If you are available and interested to test-drive our lovely stag, please leave your email address here or send us a message.

Hi Michael,
I´d like to join betatesting, but perhaps some question may be allowed:
1. What are the system requirements for running the screensaver?
2. Does the interaction run with slow bandwith internet connection (modem/isdn)
3. What ammount of time do you estimate for adequate testing.
4. Which features will be included in this Beta Version
5. Do you have a testing scenario, time slots for interaction events etc?
Further i´d like to ask if you could provide something like an "official banner" to use for article about "The Endless Forrest, as you seem to be a little concerend about using images from the site.
Best, sim |

Hi Sim,
Thanks for your interest.
1. We haven't pinned down those requirements exactly yet. But you'll definitely need DirectX 9.0c and a reasonably recent videocard and CPU.
2. The Endless Forest has been designed so that it can run off line as well as on line. So even if your internet connection is slow, you will still be able to interact with the world. Phase One does not include much inter-player interaction yet.
3. As much as you like. This is not professional QA or anything. The Endless Forest is a project that will be developed gradually, partially based on the feedback of the players. This betatest is a first opportunity for such feedback.
4. Just basic navigation through an endless forest and one or two actions.
5. No. Because there are no events yet. But we could organize a day to meet with as many players as possible, perhaps.
What do you mean by a banner? And where would this article be published? |

Thanks Michael,
Hope my old workstation will be able to run the beta
With the banner i simpl mean an image, or a collection of images that could be used for example in blog articles like this http://stefan.immelmann-winter.i-mem.net/pivot/entry.php?id=21 (my german weblog) or other referrers to your project.
Another Question: Do you care about your initiate audience? From my experience with online interactions it could be important to care about who makes the first steps with you, the authors, in The Endless Forrest. Means where would you like or where are you going to promote (in a noncommercial meaning) the beta?
best, sim. |

Sim,
I guess it would be a good idea to prepare some images for use in publications. We'll take care of that when we update the website.
I'm not sure what you mean by your "initiate audience" question. Could you explain?
We are not going to promote the beta at all. Just here, and perhaps on the website or via our mailing list. The Endless Forest is very much developed as an art project. Which mean that Auriea and I make all decisions as authors. We appreciate input, but we're making this project first of all as something that we like. And since we're not asking any money for it, we hope that people can be a bit tolerant concerning bugs and errors.
In terms of generally promoting this project, I think we're going to be a bit modest in the beginning. Since it is also a very modest project. We're going to slowly try and develop an audience for it. And the game will grow together with that audience. |

Maybe my configuration won't play the "game" (better call it an Experience") (AMD 1.2Ghz, 256moRAM DDR, GeForce 2 MX400 64mo). But i'd really like to try it !

Ooh la la, Fook_yu!... you urgently need to upgrade. We don't even have a geforce 2 anymore to test it. Let alone an MX!... You don't know what you're missing. There's a brandnew world of real-time 3D out there just waiting for you to be discovered. (And it's been there for a while!...)
You're welcome to try, but anything lower than a Geforce 3 Ti will probably make the experience not very enjoyable. And that CPU could use an upgrade as well, I'm afraid...
(That's the price we pay for wanting to make this stuff without an army of programmers, I guess... -sorry) |

I would absolutely _love_ to beta test! I just found out about this tonight (I came to the site to check on 8, I'm sorry to hear it's on hold) and it seems really cool. Very peacefull and atmospheric.

| Due to decisions made by theinternal test department, release of the beta has been delayed. We apologize for any convenience this may cause. Hopefully we can bug you next week. |

You can talk about it here.
The reason why it's not public is that we don't want it to spread around in this state. And we need to be able to communicate with the people testing it because we're not sure how well the server will perform. If suddenly 50 people start showing up, we have no idea how the server will respond. We'd like to test that bit by bit.
There may be a public beta later this month (with more features). |
