Mace
After reaching the top of the waterfall area, to the left of the switch you pulled is a tall tree. Swipe at it with your sword until you make contact. A ball will fall from its branches. Take the ball up the stairs, into the opened room, and drop it. You will notice tree arches between the two stairs going to the upper level of the room. Go to the middle arch and push on one side of it to make it revolve and reveal a secret room. Go back and take the ball (and Yorda) and enter the secret room . Hop into the idol pedestal with Yorda and a basket will appear. Take the ball and shoot it into the basket. A mace will fly through the window. It is more powerful then the sword and the 2x4. You can take out a standard Ghout in three swings.
To get the Mace, you do not need to do the "get the ball in the basket" routine. Before getting on the idol pedestal, actually place the ball in the square on the ground, where the basket will appear. When you step on the idol pedestal, the ball will fly up and land back in the basket.
Lightsabre
Successfully complete the game once, then start another game. Follow the steps to where you got the Mace in the first time, and this time you will get a lightsaber that kills Smoke Creatures in one hit. If you hold Yorda's hand, your sabre will get long and hard.
Play Yorda
After completing the game once, in the Options select 2 Players. This will give you control over Yorda through the second controller. |

I haven't played this game in forever *sigh*
But I loved the environment.
It actually (now) reminds me of TEF. Or TEF reminds me of Ico... still. They're similar to me, and both very, very comforting in the environments and the detailing (like Ico's prequel Shadow of Colossus) |

I must say that we were delighted when we heard of Ico first. It was really strange, though. Because at that time, we were working on 8. 8 is about a young girl who gets trapped in the palace. She's a semi-autonomous character. The atmosphere of the game was more important than the gameplay. It was about wandering through the palace. The similarities with Ico were eerie!
But Ico got made and 8 hasn't, so far. We still loved Ico when it came out. We learned a lot from it. One thing being, indeed, our ideas about gameplay (and why we should be trying to make games without).
Ico is still very high on my list. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. |

I don't.
I depends on the context, I guess.
I sometimes use it as a general term for everything that you do in a game environment. Other times I use it in its specific meaning of the things you do to achive a game goal.
I dislike semantic discussions with a passion. Because they distract from discussing the real topic. |

ICO is one of my favorite games ever. However, I do not have the spectacular PAL version. I only have the North American ver. In yours, you can even unlock Yorda's language and get English subs for what she says. :3
Michael, I was wondering if you liked Shadow of The Colossus as well? Being that it was the spirital successor to ICO (and prequel, hoho). |

Shadow of the Colossus is pretty. But it's a game. I don't like games.
I love exploring virtual environments and interacting with the characters in them. I liked the feeling of climbing on the colossi. But the whole find-kill-next cycle bored my to tears. I hate boss rounds because they're always difficult at first until you find the trick and then it's so easy that it's disappointing. The rigid mechanic destroys the narrative. Shadow of the Colossus is a game made by artists and targeted at hardcore gamers. Pearls before swine? |

Did you ever play the Myst series of games, and its online version, UruLive (MystOnline), Michael? Apart from TEF, it is the only online experience I have found I really enjoy, since it is as much about community, almost, as the puzzles, which are complex and both physical in intellectual in terms of solution. It is not a "shooter" game, for want of a better term. It has complex, very beautiful graphics with global view. You can spend time sitting and enjoying, jumping off stuff, talking to people, or solving puzzles, and at your own pace. There is no "levelling up", no competition against the game or other people, (not counting entirely gamer generated things - like the A to Z races), no killing beings of any sort to get somewhere. Some puzzle solutions are time related, very few. Not suprisingly, it attracts just a small, select group of players. I think other players think we're weird, they want to know where the action is. They wouldn't like fawns either. So much the more peace for the rest of us... |

I'm afraid I'm not patient enough to solve Myst's puzzles. |

| The online version allows the ability to go places without solving puzzles, to sit and enjoy the ambience, to enjoy the people. Or to solve puzzles as a multiplayer experience. It depends on what you intend as a gamecreator or enjoy as a player of course. |

Really? I tried Uru when it first came out. I liked the atmosphere quite a bit. But couldn't seem to get any further without solving the puzzles. Maybe it has changed? I guess I should try again. |

ico is definitely on my "capture list" as well as haunting ground(which is far from peaceful)
ico is what i like in most games....it's about protecting, exploring, solving some puzzles, graphics incredible....never beat it....but eh i still want to buy it(if i can find it)
at this point mystonline uru is offline...and being prepared to become opensource.....i personally played uru the buyable cd......got three worlds/ages without cheating....sadly my faviorte world was also the one i had to cheat on....i bought and downloaded both the expansions for the offline game....spectacular.....but lacking in the freeness....but hey the creators of myst are not perfect.....nobody is......
what bugs me is.....like on my faviorte game above all others is clock tower 3 (please dont shoot me) but as im going through the house...there are doors that arent locked...but allysa the main character refuses to go through them..saying there is nothing of interest here(bah i say...i live in this house and i cant even explore every room...it sickens me) but oh well
as long as i hold on and keep striving maybe ill find the way~author uknown |
