So, I'm a newbie member and I've been trying to think of how to get started posting when I remembered, "oh yeah, I've written fanfiction for The Path!"

I was originally planning on writing a "ficlet" for each Red Girl and her wolf, but so far, I have only written two. I tried to capture the atmosphere in the game of my writing as well as I could manage, and I'm satisfied with what the result was. I took a little artistic license with Robin's story (specifically, how the angel looks in the graveyard, because 1. I had forgotten what it looked like when I wrote the story and 2. crying angel statues freak me out more than headless angel statues).

I hope you enjoy them! Smile

What the Water Gave Me — • • Rose

She could smell the water in the air. She could smell the mud and the earth; the scent filled her nostrils with a fervor like no other. The dampness of the ground soaked through her stockings and chilled her feet. A light fog swirled around her.

Rose felt more at home beside the lake than she had anywhere else, including her own home. Sometimes she felt as if she didn't belong there. She didn't like the city, with its loud noise and concrete. She wanted the tranquility of nature around her.

At only eleven years old, Rose knew she was not meant for the world of steel and coldness.

I belong here, she thought as she gazed at the lake. I belong here with the animals and flowers and trees. Maybe I am a tree. She knelt down and grabbed a fistful of soil. I am a tree. My feet are my roots, my fingers are my branches.

It was then she noticed the boat. It was a small, Rose-sized boat. The paint on it was old and chipped. It floated on the water and despite the breeze, it did not move. Rose felt compelled to go to it. So she did.

All was quiet as she stepped into the boat and sat down on the hard seat. The boat began to glide forward silently, but Rose was not afraid.

As the boat went towards the middle of the lake, the fog grew thicker. Rose looked upwards. She couldn't see the sky.

She saw something else, though. She saw someone. She got to her feet and suddenly she was floating up, up towards him, the man bathed in clouds, the man who was beckoning her closer and closer. And then-

all was quiet.

Unquiet Grave — • • Robin

Robin didn't understand.

She didn't understand why the sky was blue or why the grass was green. Most importantly, though, she didn't understand why Mother didn't want her to play in the woods.

The woods were wonderful! There were so many places to explore: the playground, the field, the theatre-

and, of course, the graveyard.

The graveyard was the most fascinating place to Robin. She knew of death and knew that it caused sadness, but her knowledge didn't extend beyond that. Death, at the moment, was something that didn't happen to her. It was something she had never faced and never thought she would have to face.

She bounded from headstone to headstone, reading the names with much interest and trampling the graves beneath her booted feet. Oh, she didn't know any better. She was only a child, merely nine years old. She didn't understand that she was disturbing the dead with her laughter.

She continued on her adventures, climbing across grave after grave. She thought climbing upon the small mounds was great fun!

Robin paused in her adventuring to look up at the statue of the angel that sat in the center of the graveyard. The angel, faded with age, cried silently.

I wonder why she's so sad, Robin thought. She approached the statue and, almost reverently, touched the cold stone. It chilled her fingers. Maybe she's lonely. She probably doesn't have anyone to play with.

It was then Robin heard a noise. A soft, gentle growl. Maybe it was a wolf! Robin turned around eagerly. Oh, she adored wolves!

Indeed, there stood a wolf, tall and burly, poised on his hind legs much like a man stood.

Robin smiled and stepped forward.

"Hello!" she greeted. "My name's Robin! Do you want to play with me?"

Ah, I adore these! They capture the characters and the atmosphere of the game so well! My only complaint is that they could use a little proofreading, but that's just me being the Grammar Nazi I am. ^_^

Do you plan to do more of these? I'd really like to see one for Ginger--her wolf always intrigued me.

Thank you! Also, I went back and proofread them again, so hopefully I got all of the grammar errors this time. (Sometimes when I'm writing, my brain goes faster than my hands and I end up making a lot of typos.)

I'm planning to eventually do the rest for all of the girls, hopefully! Smile

Thanks for this wonderful way of playing "The Path" !!
I do also look forward to the story of Ginger - it might even be a triangle drama. Once, when I watchfully approached the playground, the red and the white girl were both there, close to each other. I asked myself what would happen if I try to get to the white one; will she save me from getting captured by the red one? Or will the temptation from the red's mocking laugh turn out to be irresistible? Remains to find out ..
