Ack. My problem is, is that if the BAN pelt were available, it would make TEF perfect for me. It would be one of the best things to happen all year. However, I don't like these means to the ends... I just want it to be a castable pelt. >_<

Since this is a way of playing with the game outside of the game's narrative, I'm afraid we cannot approve of it. As you can notice in the reactions, it breaks the illusion of the Forest. So basically everyone who is manipulating Spell Data is ruining the game for other people. Which is not a very nice thing to do.

We will implement a method to prevent this in the future (sad that we have to do this instead of adding fun things to the game...). But we don't have time for this at the moment. So in the mean time, please respect the other players and stop hacking the game. If you can't do that, we'll simply turn off the server until we have time to fix the problem.

Honestly, I am glad for this response. I have been tired too long of people taking TEF outside its original intentions. Maybe the way people play will go back to the way it was in Phase II in which players were magical deer, plain and simple.

Heck, I'd go further and implement something in which a player's spelldata would be wiped every time he or she logs out, so when he or she logs back in, his or her deer is naked again. Evil or Very Mad

Not dirrected at anyone in particular...
But...
Jeez. No offence, but it seems like all of the people who were against this hex-editing in the first place, have all of a sudden become all 'high an mighty' and seem to be responding in increasingly passive-aggresive, and even DIRECTLY agressive manners.

I'd just like to make my point,
There was no rule before today about this, so NOBODY IS RIGHT AND NOBODY IS WRONG AT THIS POINT.

The only time we need to fuss at people about this, is if they continue to use things that have been deemed innapropriet.

I completely disagree with REDKORA's comment about deleting sets everytime the person logs out. That would ruin the game for me honestly. It would take all the time that I was going to be playing with deer, and make me use it up to help others gets pelts, and get my own set back.

UGH. I think once we finally get phase 4 (wishfull thinking) people will all shut up about everything, there will be fewer people trying to glitch or whatever, and we'll all be more happy because we're all getting stir crazy since we're having phase 4 dangled above our heads for so long.

Uhmm... ._.

We're all just expressing our opinions. There's no passive-aggressive behavior meant in it.

Someone has his or her opinion, and another has his.

That is all.

As with anything even in real life. Older TEF players have seen TEF grow from a simple concept to something a bit more complicated, and us newer players can't even imagine starting from what TEF used to be. Like grandparents who grew up without computers or TV...

I will say manipulating a game, isn't right, and if TEF was bigger, or even a paid for game, you would be SUED for doing such...
How would they treat a someone hacking a game like Runescape, World of Warcraft or any other online game?? Think about it.

I will not say "I'm right you're wrong."... because that isn't right either.
Anyway, I'm glad the game creators have stepped in on this. And hopefully other players who wont listen wont ruin TEF for all of us...
Because, that would be a SHAME...

I'm curious to ask, Michael, is Project Greenleaf helping the Forest at all? Will all of our funds to TEF be used up to fix all of these glitches??

Seeing the Gods' pelt being paraded around by someone else felt like a big slap in the face to me (and I'm sure Michael and Auriea would feel the same way). No, I'm not being 'high and mighty' about this situation - I'm simply stating that it was insulting to see and that it should not have happened.

So far, in terms of actual funds, Project Greenleaf has been too modest finance anything meaningful. But the donations that come in do encourage us and create a sort of "emotional debt", a feeling that we owe something to the community. We are trying to create some free time in which we can add a few things to the Forest. Initially these will only be small things (like trying to set up limited seats for Abiogenesis, or, indeed, fixing the Spell Data problem). But with any luck, these will lead to greater additions. We really really want to work on the Forest. But since we don't have jobs, we don't have free time and all of the funding we have is destined for other projects. So it's difficult.

Thread drift:

That's one of the drawbacks of a community that is made up of mostly adolescents. There are not enough people who have enough money to invest in buying items they would like. This is why I advertise my stuff to people (who I know will be supportive) outside this community in addition to my post on the deviantART page or the community site.

Heck, if I can't sell anything else for awhile, I'll do something on the side for extra money that I can donate. I'm a full-time grad student, but I can always find time to collect cans to sell or whatnot. Even dumpsters have intact items that can always be resold on Craigslist.

Mhmm...I'll see what I can do in my spare time to help as well. I don't make a whole lot of money, but maybe what I could do is set a small amount aside from each paycheck to donate.

If I'm not able to sell some of my necklaces for a while, maybe I'll advertise them to my mom's coworkers, who may buy them. Then I could have more room to make some new ones.

Just a thought to help Project Greenleaf a little: What about setting up an Etsy shop for those items that you have physically in your possession to sell? Etsy is a great site for craftsters that has a real community feel and ethic. It gets tons of traffic and would be a neat way to get the word out about TEF! The jewelry category tends to get the most traffic, which is a good and bad thing- bad only in that your items can get lost in the huge mix. Still, I think it could be a viable option if you had time to set up a shop.[/url]

That thought crossed my mind before. I just don't have the time.

EDIT: On second thought, your post got me thinking. I'm going to go ahead and offer stuff on Etsy, too.

EDIT EDIT: Here is my Etsy shop!

Thanks for the tip, Alcidae!

Hey Michael, I came up with an idea that might help encourage more Greenleaf donations. What if you set a goal for us to reach, like an amount of money that when accomplished will be enough to finance something toward the game?

Then you could update us on the progress on a monthly basis (or however you'd like). I think if we had a goal, then it would be encouraged for everyone to donate with the idea that "my donation helped add X to The Endless Forest."

We could also encourage donors that no donation amount is too small and every bit helps toward reaching our goal.

Let me know what you think! Wink

Setting a goal would be great if it would something interesting. Like adding a new area or a new character or activity. At the moment, however, the most urgent changes are rather technical in nature. But once they are done, more glamorous ones become much more likely!

I posted a few things on the forum a few weeks ago about making a donation meter, I think that would really help to encourage us. Maybe even for something small. Like, make this much money, and we'll put one new set into the game. .... Or something. O:
