This is an old thread with several good ideas. But please start a new thread for new ideas.

Please add to this thread your ideas for actions that you would like to see your deer do.
We're not looking for huge game designs but for simple activities like the ones currrently available in the game (roar, sniff, rub, etc).

Rutting and leaping whilst running for a start. Smile Maybe more poses, some more communication options indicating the avatars state - happy response, sad response etc.

If you ever get time, playfighting. Simple, clack-clack of the horns stuff.

yeah i like the idea of playfighting.. also maybe a playful nudge in a certain direction, like a nudge from behind. I remember playing before I wanted to tell the other deer "come run around with me" but it never got across.

I dunno, i will think about this tonight at work, heh.

I second leaping and suggest rolling on the ground, moving the head left, right, up and down and maybe also rising on hind legs for a second.

Oh, and another thing. It's not really an action, but it would be nice if you could hear the sound of another deer's hooves. If I'm correct, currently you can only hear the roars? Or maybe I'm just deaf Question

It's the hair, it covers your ears. Smile

I second being able to control the head to indicate "yes, no" etc. Maybe that "brrr" sounds horses do when they're annoyed. Smile Laughing

Leaping while you are running is already part of the engine. It happens automatically when you run into a low obstacle. But since we don't have any low obstacles yet, it's been disabled temporarily.

Moving the head: would you want to control the direction? And if so, why exactly?

This is correct and due to a limitation in the software that we're using to make the game. But we'll try to work around this in a future release.

Yes, it would be great if you could control the direction, that way it would be easier to communicate with other deer. For instance, you could move your head to one side a couple of times if you'd like another stag to follow you. Or when standing next to another deer, you could look in its direction to show you're interested in what it's doing. Right now you can only face it by moving your whole body or by waiting for some scripted idle animation to kick in - seems a bit rigid. Maybe you could even bow your head in grassy areas (like that patch of flowers by the ruin) and your avatar would start chewing on grass or raise your head to eat leaves from smaller trees - if that's what deer eat Smile.

In the end, you could do it just because it would look nice Wink

An obvious contol scheme would be to press and hold a certain button and then use your direction keys for moving the head, but maybe you can come up with something better. If you decide to implement it, that is.

As Insane says, you've got to try to think of ways to enable free communication using poses and animation, ways of conveying emotion at least without resorting to obvious cliche. Your game is evidently about interaction and atmosphere, it's thinking of ways to allow people to convey thoughts without words.

Today I registered to the 'Endless Forest'. After downloading I registered also a name for my deer. The replying mail said that I could now log in via the 'options screen' and press 'network'. The problem is that I can not find an 'options screen' in the game. When I click the action tabs, my computer goes back to the startup page....

Could anybody please help me further with this?

Kind regards,
Butterfly

Butterfly, click on the small square with a circle inside it, it's in the lower left part of the screen.

I think this will be an important part of "Phase Two". So keep the ideas coming!... Smile

Thanks for your fast reply insane_cobra!!
I tried this, several times. The square has a red/orange circle in it. I understood that this means that the server is not working perfectly. After clicking this square my pc returns to the desktop...Sad

I managed to click the options screen, so now my deer has a name!!! I even saw other deers in the forest!
Nevertheless, after a few seconds playing, my cursor (the leave) changes into the usual arrow, and I have no possibility anymore to click anything....My pc keeps returning to the desktop screen...
The colour of the square was green a few minutes ago...Smile
