Rose was the first (and only, so far) I played through. In regards to her "wolf", I interpreted the whole experience as a hallucination:
* Her love of animals could have led her to catch something, like an illness from the hurt blackbird (which could be a metaphor to always use caution, even when the source of potential danger looks innocent), causing her to see things at Grandma's, or
* She got lost in the mist and while reaching out to what she thought was a person, fell out of the rowboat and while drowning, hallucinated Grandmother's house, or
* Perhaps she was following the path the entire time and had her head so far up in the clouds that she tripped and fell (metaphor for always pay attention!)
For the latter, she could've been so delirious when she awoke that she was hallucinating in Grandma's house as well, which would explain why things were out of place, out of focus and spinning in the air. Maybe the thud at the end was her collapsing to the floor or even banging her head against something... |

Re-posting something I said in another thread...
I think she fell out of the boat and drowned - notice how as the camera pans back she's getting closer and closer to the water. (I think that I think the walk to grandmother's house and the surreal rooms inside is a moment-of-death hallucination. Could be wrong though.)
I almost think that Rose's wolf was a figment of her imagination. To me, she seems like a very quiet, dreamy girl who sees magic in EVERYTHING - and out on the lake she's so happy and in awe, life is so beautiful, the mist is so magical, that she has a vision (dream? Hallucination? Wishful thinking?) that the magic is real and that she can fly, and tries... |

| I like the comments about infection Xiira. I could see on the wolf lots of red vein marks along his arms and back. Definitely gets an idea cross about being infected. Then rising her up in the air, certainly some for of hallucination or light headedness. Also if you watch the water it slowly turns more and more red as she rises, making me think the misty lake is her own life source slowly being infected. The water being her blood, the mist being her dreams slowly becoming tainted due to a fever. |

I'm on the drowned theory, It makes more sense to me, since U have to pass through a room full of water in GMhouse If I remember well. But It would help if somebody could post the frames of her end.
Her wolf, by the way, was pretty disturbing. |

Yes, although I do like the infection theory, it is more and more becoming simply what is is. Drowning.
Perhaps she was trying to help someone, and got pulled under?
I love how much interpretation comes out of all of this. |

| Wow, thanks, you are really good! Disturbing and subjectives images, I can't find a clear interpretation, but I keep in the drowning theory. |

All the images with Rose on them, as far as I can make out, do have her looking upwards, as though trying to break the surface.
One other thing, on her livejournal it does say "Many people might think it's gloomy and grey, but I adore mist! Walking through the mist is like floating through clouds."
Perhaps it is more accident than anyone physical. Her wolf is her own imagination, up in the clouds. I think Morrigain stated this way back at the start of this post so sorry for retreading the same path. No pun intended. |

Hm. If you look around the edges of the bubbles, it looks to me like those ripple-esque designs that appeared at the edge of the screen to indicate when you were near points of interest.
Just a note. |

In a grim way of looking at it...this was my thoughts...
The figure in the mist seemed masculine to me. I thought Rose was abducted by a mysterious man who promised to take her away from her problems (noted about the bird, she said if she had wings she'd definitely try to fly away or die trying). She was willing to risk her life to go off with the mysterious man for a better life. Unfortunately, it ended up in her being murdered/drowned. I guessed this kind of because she got in the boat with no seeming fear of the water, so assumed she could swim, yet the images show a struggle of her trying to get back to the surface (fighting someone?).
Or in a way, the man in the mist being like a siren that leads Rose to her death by the lure of a better life.
Just seems all the girls are unhappy with their current situation in life, or their soon to be situations (like growing up). |

-skips in to give her poorly worded thoughts on the matter-
After playing through Rose's 'story' I have to say she has to be one of my favorite girls. -random-
If I had skipped right to her wolf I would've probably gone with the drowning theory as well. But after spending a few days wandering around and piecing little bits together (and still getting a C jkghfdjkdgj) I think that she may've had a terminal illness.
She speaks quite a bit about how she thinks and (possibly) longs for the feeling of freedom (floating, flying, etc.) and often describes it as 'heaven' (It's been a few days so cut me some slack if I'm a bit inaccurate) this could mean that in reality she was bedridden due to her illness and the forest and grandmother's house was just a dream/illusion.
If this was the case then the feeling she's describing could just be her creating a little thought to help her stay positive about death and deal with her sickness.
With her wolf something I noticed was that in the final few images Rose didn't seem to be in any pain. Just sort of free with a dreamy expression on her face.( maybe sort of 'going into the light' type thing?) Also the pond slowly turning red/the rooms filling with water at grandmother's house could symbolize her slowly giving in to her illness.
Uh.Yeah. |

Just when I was swaying myself over to the drowning theory, you manage to bring it right back to the illness theory again.
That's what I am loving about this game, there is so much in there, you sometimes don't see the forest for the path, er, trees.
Your interpretation seems a lot more 'pleasant' than just the 'catching something' that we have had so far. Her character does live in a dream world, and that can even be plainly seen by just rotating the camera and looking in her eyes. There is something far away with her. A game character escaping her reality which is in itself ourselves escaping our reality? Oh, my head hurts... |

Wow, Silent, major hivemind with...someone else. Gah, who was it? A bit before the release of the game, someone else posted an eerily similar theory. I'll try to dig it up for comparison's and discussion's sake, but not making any garuntees; the search function on these boards is a bit cumbersome. |
