I think its a really great toy/tool. Quite fun and relaxing giving way to creative possibilities if you get into it. I too have used it for "composition" =) but I think the homebrew music instruments people are making show that so much more is possible. I find he DS interface is great for realizing synesthetic connections between color, sound, motion and interaction.
